Course Outline

Something for Everyone

Tea Cup in Watercolor

We have put great thought into planning each lesson carefully. Every 14 week course is different, which is why our classes are often booked months in advance by students who want to return and learn further.

Pencils

Weeks 1-3 are aimed at beginners and experienced artists to cover basic elements of picture construction, perspective, balance, and scale, which provides a foundation for the rest of the course.

In weeks 4-5 you will start to introduce colour, texture and tone to your art using oil pastels. We will show you how colours are mixed on the paper, rather than the traditional palette and how overlaying and blending various colours, helps to create texture and a very distinct piece of art.

During Weeks 6-8 we move onto watercolour, looking at various brush techniques, mixing colours, hues and tones and working with light and shadows. We will also explore the colour wheel and teach you the importance of paper preparation.

Paint Colors

We dive into acrylics for weeks 9-12, where you will learn to use water based acrylic paint, which offers vibrant colours and texture using both paint brushes and palette knives. This is a really exciting medium and one which many often to choose to work with permanently in the future.

Week 13 is devoted to mounting the many wonderful pieces of art you have created over the course. We teach you the necessary steps and techniques which can be used in the future.

In the final week you will have the opportunity to display your work at our end of course exhibition. This is a wonderful, social event where we celebrate all you have achieved!
